5 Clean Non-Toxic Cosmetic Brands To Shop Now

According to the BreastCancer.org, many of the cosmetic products we count on to make us look and feel beautiful contain hormone disruptors that might cause cancer. Gasp!

Many of these chemicals like parabens and phthalates imitate hormones like estrogen and confuse the body’s natural balance. Moreover, it’s not only those chemicals that prove harmful. Synthetic fragrances like those used in luxury perfumes have also been found to be toxic.

These synthetic fragrances are said to emit the same volatile vapors as petroleum emissions from cars according to the United States Environmental Protection Agency.

According to the EWG, the agency that keeps an account of cosmetic ingredients and their toxicity:

“One of every seven of the 82,000 chemicals registered for use in the U.S. Personal care products contain carcinogens, pesticides, reproductive toxins, endocrine disruptors, plasticizers, degreasers, and surfactants.”

When you think about the amount of personal care products you interact with on a daily basis from toothpaste to shaving creams, the statement above is quite frightening. It’s not all doom and gloom however, as there is a newer, fresh crop of cosmetic companies that are championing non-toxic, clean beauty.

Since marketers have caught on to the fact that consumers want products with non-toxic chemicals, clean washing is becoming a more common practice by big beauty brands. Unfortunately, just because the packaging mentions all-natural ingredients doesn’t necessarily mean it’s true.

It is worth becoming familiar with the glossary of toxic ingredients on the EWG’s database. We also recommend using apps like ThinkDirty, which scans the barcode of each cosmetic item you buy and rates the toxicity level. This app is a real eye-opener that will help you rethink your entire approach to beauty.

If you are an ardent beauty junkie, you may worry that clean beauty products won’t deliver on the looks you love, like mascaras that lengthen your lashes.

Not to worry, we’ve put together a short list of trustworthy companies that create non-toxic cosmetics, without compromising beautiful results.

This Northern California-based company stays true to its name. The ingredients are clean but richly pigmented. Their long-wear lipsticks and lip pigments are a must-have!

Goop by Juice Beauty

While many laughed at the absurdity of Gwyneth Paltrow’s Goop when it first launched, Paltrow is a burgeoning businesswoman who has transformed Goop into a successful business valued at $250 million. Goop is a brand that many look toward for the latest in clean beauty. That’s why Paltrow teamed up with Juice Beauty in 2015 to produce an affordable and clean skincare line.

RMS Beauty

We like multipurpose cosmetics like lip stains that double as blush and do so seamlessly. RMS Beauty makes really great multipurpose salves that can create both a subtle and dramatic look.

Kosas

Pardon us while we sing praises about Kosas’ oil foundation from rooftops. If the “no makeup-makeup” look is your thing, this is the foundation for you.

While foundation oil might seem like impractical witchcraft, we are here to confirm that this is the foundation your makeup bag has been missing. It goes on super light, is all-natural and formulated with botanicals that enrich your skin, unlike most foundations.

We are not the only ones who love it, it recently won Allure Beauty’s best of beauty award.

Phlur

This one is for fragrance lovers who have their own signature scent. The news that fragrances can be hormone disruptors might have hit you pretty hard, but there are amazing all-natural alternatives that don’t smell like patchouli. Phlur fragrances smell amazing and offer you the ability to try them at home.

You can explore more clean fragrances at Credo Beauty, which is an emporium of clean beauty brands.
