Aunt Flo Is Knocking But Who Is Answering The Door?

Breast Cancer Awareness Month is a reminder to women to give their health much needed attention. Life can be very heads-down at times and it’s easy to put off regular check-ups and move personal health to the bottom of your priority list.

Let’s reset this month and prioritize our lady parts by checking, not only lumps and bumps in the north, but toxins and irritants in the south.

The first time I saw a non-bleached tampon I was horrified. Putting brown paper up there? No gracias. At the time, I was 15 and the idea of putting bleach and other cancer-causing chemicals in my ya-ya was less disturbing than the color of the tampon.

Now, there is much more information available on the good, the bad and the ugly of feminine hygiene products and tons of non-toxic products to keep your body chemical-free during your monthly cycle.

Here are our favorite clean personal care products.

LOLA

Lola offers a slew of products for women including feminine products, condoms and cramp relievers. Not only do they pride themselves on having 100% organic cotton tampons and toxin-free, plant-based pads, they make it super easy for you to continue on your path to a cleaner lifestyle.

With their monthly customizable product subscriptions, you’ll never need to DIY a toilet paper solution again! The company has donated more than 2 million period products to date and your recurring purchase will continue to support their efforts.

LunaPads

This Canada-based brand offers inclusive, eco-friendly and non-toxic menstrual hygiene solutions with washable pads and period underwear. Transgender men are not at the forefront of consideration when it comes to designing feminine products but LunaPads delivers the ideal solution in their padded boxer briefs.

Additionally, bikini-cut briefs are available along with a wide selection of reusable pads in various absorptions and sizes. This is a great solution for people who prefer pads and like the other brands, they donate feminine products to women in East Africa.
