Taylor Swift Shines Spotlight on LGBTQ+ Community

One can claim to be an ally, but it takes more than words to actually help make a difference.  Sometimes allies need to use their power to give space to the communities that they are supporting.

When Taylor Swift won Video for Good for her song “You Need to Calm Down” at this year’s VMAs, she handed the award over to her co-producer Todrick Hall. The video is a celebration of the LGBTQ+ community and the Equality Act, featuring numerous LGTBQ+ stars such as Laverne Cox, Ellen Degeneres and Billy Porter.

Allowing Hall to accept the award while surrounded by the video’s co-creators was a testament to the authenticity of the Swift’s lyrical message of support. Be inspired by Swift’s alliance to the LGBTQ+ community and take action to support the Equality Act in all 50 states.
